Welcome! here it is at last, and sorry for the delay. This is a project that I have been working on for many years. Thanks for taking a look, I hope it is of help to you, and please any and all feedback here would be very much appreciated.

This is the book about Navision. It will be introduced in chapters. Ultimately it will follow the entire Go-Live process for an imaginary company about to implement Navision. At this point, the most important thing is feedback. Please send me an email Go-Live the book I want to know i this is a worthwhile venture.

"the book" is something I have been working on for years, but never got around to actually doing. From the beginning the main reason for not doing it was commercial. By this I mean how could I make money out of it. There are a few books written about Navision, but mist of them are basically a generic "how to in ERP", with a few Navision's specifics tacked in. My plan for a book, is a complete A-Z of implementing Navision from finding an NSC through to your first product upgrade. Then the next plan is to keep it current through the versions, up to Green/Dynamics.

So what are the economics of this? Well slim. I looked at the time it would take to write the book, and the  loss of earnings during that time, the maintenance of new volumes for new Navision releases, then the number I could sell, and the price, and really it is not something that would make me too rich. I could spend the time writing Navision project plans, and make much more money.

It then occurred to me that since I wasn't going to make any money on the book, then I might just as well give it away for free! But to do that the the direct costs had to be very low, and I needed to be able to publish and distribute at basically no cost, and most importantly it had to be something I could do in my spare time. The biggest issue by far, is how do you ever finish a book if you are doing it in our spare time, and until its finished, then all the work in progress is unusable.

Well if you take all this into account, there was only one solution. The web. So here is how the book will now work.

At the website www.go-live.us/thebook I am going to publish the book piece meal. It will be a bit messy in the beginning, but will all tie in together in the end. Also this method of development will allow instant feed back from readers, so I can concentrate on the chapters as they are most requested. I plan to publish once per week with as much as gets done in that week

At the moment the sequence will be something like this:

  1. Get together all my notes, and put them here as basic text.
  2. Generate a table of contents to show the direction of the book
  3. Design the "dummy company" that will be the basis of the book.
  4. Clean up the basic book structure.
  5. Decide on the Basic web technology to build the book. (Currently HTML in text editor, probably moving to a PHP MySQL type affair.
  6. Find helpers to translate the book into multiple languages.
  7. Create all the missing chapters.

At certain points, I will gather the book as it stands, and compile it into a file (PDF or HTML, not sure), and make this available to all those that want it.

Ultimately I want to translate this book in to multiple languages. The first languages that I want to translate into are : Czech, Chinese (pǔ tōng huà 普通话 in both Simplified and in pinyin) and German If you are interested in any of these languages, please contact me.
